Field Trip Date: October 16, 2026 9am-1pm Nature as Teacher Preserve 247 Chestnut Ferry Road Camden, SC 29020 We are excited to welcome Little Mountain Learners to Nature as Teacher Preserve for a morning of hands-on, outdoor learning! Students will be divided into two groups and rotate between two learning stations from 9:30–11:35 a.m. Following the field trip, students and families are invited to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy exploring the Preserve until 1:00 p.m. Station 1 Habitat Hike. Students will explore the diverse habitats of Nature as Teacher Preserve and investigate what makes a habitat suitable for wildlife. Using observation and evidence, students will identify essential habitat components—including food, water, shelter, and space—and compare how different habitats meet the needs of different organisms. Station 2 Creek Sweep (Aquatic Macroinvertebrates). Students will investigate the Preserve's freshwater ecosystem through a hands-on creek sweep. Working in teams, students will collect and identify aquatic organisms, including macroinvertebrates, and examine how these organisms are adapted to life in a freshwater habitat. Students will use their findings as evidence to evaluate the health and biodiversity of the creek and explore the interconnected relationships within a freshwater ecosystem. After the Field Trip After the stations conclude at 11:35 a.m., students and families are welcome to enjoy a picnic lunch and explore Nature as Teacher Preserve until 1:00 p.m Refund Policy No refunds will be issued unless the program is cancelled by Nature as Teacher. Inclement Weather Policy Nature as Teacher programs are held outdoors and may continue during light rain or typical weather conditions, so please come prepared for the forecast. For the safety of our visitors, Nature as Teacher reserves the right to cancel or postpone a program due to severe weather, including thunderstorms, lightning, dangerous temperatures, high winds, flooding, or other unsafe conditions. If Nature as Teacher must cancel a program due to inclement weather, participants will be notified as soon as possible and will receive a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule, when applicable. No refunds will be issued for cancellations due to weather when the program proceeds as scheduled.
